Estate planning involves creating a plan for how to transfer an “estate” (all of the assets a person owns) upon their death. This process may feel grim, but it is essential for people who have family, loved ones, and assets to protect. In an initial estate planning consultation we discuss the client’s estate planning needs and determine what plan is right for them. The basic services Siskiyou Law offers are:

Will Package: Our Will Package includes attorney advice (initial consultation and consultation throughout process), legal document preparation and execution of the Will, Advance Directive for Healthcare, and Financial Power of Attorney, which together form the estate plan. We provide the client with original signed documents plus electronic copies. This service is available for individuals or couples.

Trust Package: Our Trust Package includes attorney advice (initial consultation and consultation throughout process), document preparation and execution of the Revocable Living Trust, Certification of Trust, “Pourover” Will, Advance Directive, Financial Power of Attorney, Warranty deeds and other title transfer documents, which together form the estate plan. We provide the client with their original signed documents in a user-friendly organizational binder, plus electronic copies.

“A la Carte”: Sometimes clients don’t require the full suite of estate planning tools in the Will or Trust Package. In this case, single documents such as a Power of Attorney or Advance Directive, or a Will or a Trust Amendment may be all that is needed. In that case we will set the fee for drafting those individual documents at our initial consultation.

Consultation & document review: There are many internet-based estate planning services out there, and often times clients have created an online Will but are uncertain if it really works for their family. Others had an attorney draft their Will or Trust years ago but are now wondering if it needs to be updated as their family or financial situation has changed. At Siskiyou Law we meet with clients and review their documents and provide advice on the efficacy of their existing plan as needed.
